Fresh produce a winner in Whole Foods-Instacart partnership
Millions of pounds of fresh produce found their way to consumers’ homes during the first year of a partnership between Whole Foods Market, based in Austin, TX, and one-hour grocery delivery service Instacart.
The two companies, which are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the partnership that has helped Whole Foods Market customers purchase groceries and have them delivered in as little as one hour, said 2.2 million bananas, 1.25 million apples and 500,000 avocados were delivered to consumers during the first year.
More than 40 percent of all Whole Foods Market shopping baskets delivered by Instacart featured fresh produce items. The top five most frequently purchased products over the past year were bananas, avocados, carrots, lemons and limes. Delivery charges range from $3.99 for two-hour delivery to $5.99 for one-hour delivery.
“When Whole Foods Market launched our partnership with Instacart, we did so with the belief that our customers would love the speed and convenience of shopping our store shelves from wherever they might be at any given time,” Walter Robb, co-chief executive officer of Whole Foods Market, said in a press release. “Our customers clearly love having this convenient shopping option.”
Instacart currently delivers Whole Foods Market groceries in 17 metropolitan areas: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Boulder, CO, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland, OR, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, and Washington, DC.
