Red Sun Farms launches new sustainable packaging
Red Sun Farms, headquartered in Kingsville, Ontario, is now serving its customers — and its customers’ customers — a full line of U.S. Department of Agriculture certified greenhouse grown organic vegetables. The line is being produced in the company’s greenhouses in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Red Sun Farm’s ‘Artisan Series’ ‘Chef Collection’ tomatoes in ‘Earthcycle’ packaging.“When people ask why Red Sun Farms’ organic vegetables are different from others, we tell them they can be assured that our team has been with the products from the beginning,” said Company President, Jim DiMenna. “We are the only greenhouse grower in North America that controls the entire growing process; seed selection, propagation, harvest, transportation and delivery to your store.”
He added that Red Sun organics, and the company’s line of conventionally grown produce from its “Artisan Series,” assure customers of quality, taste and food safety.
The “Artisan Series” is now available packaged with a sleek top seal option.
DiMenna said Red Sun Farms is also excited about its launch of the new sustainable, organic grape tomato packaging this summer.
“The package base is fully compostable, recyclable and biodegradable, and the re-sealable top seal uses a 90 percent reduction on plastic,” he explained. “We’re proud to do our part to keep our planet healthy.”
The “Earthcycle” base is made from a blend of only North American sourced virgin and recycled wood pulp. It is certified compostable to BPI standards and produced on the East Coast of Canada.
“The new pack style satisfies consumers’ desire for less plastic, reduced waste to landfills, increased use of renewable resources and local production vs. offshore,” DiMenna pointed out.
He also noted that according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Municipal Solid Waste Generation, in 2012 the U.S. recycled 76.1 percent of all paper and paperboard packaging generated. In the same year, the U.S. recycled 13.8 percent of all plastic packaging generated.
“’Earthcycle’ trays can be composted or included in the waste paper recycling stream, with newspapers and paperboard packaging,” said DiMenna.
Red Sun Farm’s Kingsville office is currently undergoing a renovation and expansion. DiMenna said it is expanding its offices to accommodate the company’s ongoing and future growth.
He also announced an exciting new consumer promotion that began on Aug. 8 and will run through Jan. 2, 2015.
“Red Sun Farms will host a weekly Grocery Gift Card Giveaway in an effort to grow, connect and interact with consumers,” said DiMenna. Consumers and current followers ‘Like’ Red Sun Farms, complete an entry form and enter for a chance to win a $100 grocery gift card.”
