Sun World presents powerhouse trio of grapes to consumers
Sun World International LLC is ready to deliver a trio of branded, proprietary table grapes to retail designed to please.
“Sun World has a powerhouse trio of grapes in the fall season with our proprietary red Scarlotta Seedless, green Autumncrisp and black Adora Seedless,” said Gordon Robertson, vice president of sales and marketing.
“These grapes have the three most important features for a good consumer experience and successful retail sales: Excellent sugar development and sweet, distinguishing flavor profiles; incredible size with most fruit in the extra large and jumbo code on Autumncrisp, Adora Seedless and Scarlotta Seedless, with excellent color development.”
Robertson said Scarlotta will continue as a flagship late season red grape.
“Autumncrisp and Adora Seedless volumes continue to grow, but will really hit scale in 2016 when our new vineyards come into production,” he told The Produce News. “Right now, demand is outpacing supply for these two new varieties. So we are working to fulfill both export and domestic programs that are committed early on. The day-to-day business will be limited.”
Sun World’s mid- to late season varieties currently account for approximately 40 percent of overall volume, and are expected to reach up to 50 percent next year with new late season vineyards coming into commercial production.
Looking at geographic distribution, Robertson said demand for Sun World grapes continues to grow across the globe.
“On the domestic supply front, we pay particular attention to Asia and Australia where grapes like Midnight Beauty, Adora Seedless and Autumncrisp brand grapes are sold at a premium for their excellent qualities,” Robertson said. “Our brand and varieties are resonating with customers and consumers around the world. This year, we will ship to over 20 countries in the world.”
Robertson said the Sable Seedless is particularly popular in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, “where the tropical and muscat flavor profile of the grape resonates well with consumers who are very flavor conscious.”
Focus on development and marketing of proprietary varieties means Sun World is to be able to supply retailers with proprietary grapes in all three colors for the entirety of the California season.
“These varieties can all be sold under the ‘Sun World’ brand, and we provide marketing support as well as POS signage and display bins,” Robertson commented.
“This year, to help with year-round recognition of Sun World branded varieties in key customers, our licensing partners in Chile will also supply the U.S. market with our varieties in Sun World branded packaging,” he added.
