Hudson River Fruit Distributors launching ‘Lil Chief’ apple brand
Hudson River Fruit Distributors, a leading northeastern apple distributor headquartered in Milton, NY, has introduced a three-pound pouch bag of apples geared toward children and marketed under the “Lil Chief” brand.
“The ‘Lil Chief’ is a three-pound pouch bag geared toward kids,” Alisha Albinder, operations manager and fourth-generation family member at HRFD, told The Produce News.
“The apples are small and easy for kids to hold, but large enough for kids’ big appetites. The item was originally launched last year and they were a big hit with retailers and parents, so we decided to do a big push again this year.”
While “Lil Chief” can be enjoyed by anyone looking for a healthy snack, its target market is children ages 5 to 13. The item encourages healthy eating habits starting at a young age.
“Apples keep you fuller longer, while also providing necessary antioxidants and minerals to keep you and your child strong and healthy,” Albinder pointed out. “While the small apples are a delicious and nutritious snack for you and your ‘lil’ one, the new colorful and resealable bag is a perfect size to keep on the counter as a great grab on the go healthy snack.”
“Lil Chief” pouch bags are being marketed to major chains and smaller independent markets.
HRFD was founded by Isador (Izzy) Albinder in 1963. Its founding mantra was — and continues to be — “Founded on the purpose to satisfy.”
“We provide a diverse array of quality apples at reasonable prices,” noted Albinder. “Our own labels, ‘Lil Chief’ and ‘Red Chief Juice Blends,’ are in addition to the private labels we provide to leading retailers in the Northeast.”
