California Giant and Sesame Street partner to promote strawberries
California Giant Berry Farms, a leading strawberry shipper, and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind "Sesame Street," have teamed up to help educate children about the benefits of strawberries.
Recent independent research shows that strawberries are among kids' favorite fruits. Based on these findings, new educational programs will focus on fun and exciting ways to encourage kids to make eating fresh fruit, like California Giant strawberries, part of their daily routine.
With the rise in childhood obesity in the United States, both organizations agree that health, physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption must begin at an early age. Partnering children's favorite fruit with Elmo and his friends from Sesame Street will make strawberries even more appealing to families.
In the spring, a variety of new on-pack labels and educational, in-store point-of-sale materials from California Giant featuring the "Sesame Street" characters will be available. Partnered consumer activities and customized programs with key retail partners are also being developed.
"California Giant joins a list of blue-chip organizations committed to Sesame Workshop's 'Healthy Habits for Life' initiative, a content-driven program to help young children and their caregivers establish an early foundation of healthy habits that can last a lifetime," Maura Regan, vice president and general manager of global licensing for Sesame Workshop, said in a statement. "With the help of the "Sesame Street" characters, learning healthy habits can be fun and easy as 1,2,3."
Sesame Workshop's "Healthy Habits for Life" initiative harnesses the power and reach of "Sesame Street" to make overall health and well-being crucial to early development in much the same way as they have helped children learn to read and write. Partners like California Giant extend the message by helping moms and children make the right choices when shopping for healthy food items like strawberries for the whole family.
"We are excited about working with Sesame Workshop, specifically because they are a non-profit organization enhancing the continued education of children. We know our dollars will be used in a very positive way to influence young children about how to eat healthy foods like our strawberries and to exercise every day," Bill Moncovich, president of California Giant, said in a statement. "Here at California Giant, we are all passionate about supporting initiatives that positively affect families and communities, so we are extremely proud of our new marketing partnership with "Sesame Street" to reach kids at a young and impressionable age."
Recently, California Giant's adult-focused health-and-fitness initiative with the company-sponsored cycling team and the American Heart Association certification has taken center stage.
Now these two very strong health-oriented programs are joined by the beloved cast of characters at "Sesame Street" to positively influence children's strawberry consumption and their level of exercise.
