Rest in peace, George the giraffe
Rest in peace, George the giraffe
It is with sadness that we announce the death of George, our beloved Masai giraffe. (“George the giraffe makes himself at home on Kenyan rose farm,” Floral Marketing in The Produce News, July 28-Aug.11, 2014, page 93). He passed on at the end of April from what we believe were natural causes.
In his many decades at Nini Farm, a rose farm in Kenya, Africa, George had a wonderful life roaming the property around Lake Naivasha, eating from the tall acacia trees and ignoring all of the human activity surrounding him. He also built up a lovely herd of his own progeny who can be seen eating on the grounds of property owners Billy and Fiona Coulson.
George’s offspring continue to be very tame, just as their father was, and to wander around the greenhouses and managers’ houses helping themselves, undeterred by tractors, motorbikes, power lines and people. We’re hoping their lives will be as long and wonderful as George’s was. Sharing a rose farm with Masai giraffes is a doubly beautiful experience.
