Nickey Gregory Co. major expansion to provide even more opportunity
The Nickey Gregory Co. has not stopped growing since its founding 15 years ago and is now in the middle of a major expansion that will increase the size of its headquarters on the Atlanta State Farmers Market by more than 50 percent.
A recent reorganization gave the Nickey Gregory Co. 536 more pallet spaces to work with while construction continues on an expansion that will add 37,000 square feet of space to the existing 75,000-square-foot facility. The addition will include 11 new doors for the shipping department and another three for receiving. Space will be created to park another 15 tractor-trailers. And a dedicated tomato repack operation in College Park, GA, will be brought back to the market as well. Factor in a second warehouse in Miami, FL, and it’s easy to see how the Nickey Gregory Co. reaches 11 Southeastern states with overnight delivery.
“We’re the perfect partner for foodservice and just-in-time deliveries,” said Director of Marketing and Business Development Andrew Scott. “We carry a full line of products and Miami gives us easy access to specialty produce chefs are looking for. If you need it, we probably have it. And if we don’t, we can get it and get it in a hurry from our team in Miami.”
The Nickey Gregory Co. can guarantee overnight delivery via its own fleet of state-of-the-art trucks with electronic log books, satellite tracking and constant cold chain monitoring. A subsidiary company, Gregory Family Express, has a similar fleet that specializes in hauling fresh and frozen product along the Eastern Seaboard.
“It works because we go can go to a lot of areas — we can go to the northeast and pick up fruit, or to Pennsylvania and get mushrooms and haul them to our Miami location, then bring produce back to Atlanta from there and start the process all over again,” said President Nickey Gregory.
“If the Nickey Gregory Co. runs short on drivers when we have big days or have to get reloads picked up, we’ll lean on GFE vs. hiring an outside carrier,” said Scott. “That guarantees our drivers know and understand produce, unlike outside carriers who may not handle time-sensitive perishables.”
That combination makes the Nickey Gregory Co. the perfect partner for Southeastern foodservice.
“Whether you’re looking for regular service or an emergency delivery, we can take care of you,” Gregory said. “When it comes to shipping, it doesn’t matter whether it’s our product or somebody else’s under contract, we get it there when it supposed to be there the way they want it delivered.”
