Michigan weather highly agreeable to Duda Farm Fresh Foods’ crops
In mid-June Michigan’s weather had been highly agreeable to produce farmers who grow there. Duda Farm Fresh Foods, headquartered in Oviedo, FL, told The Produce News that all of its crops, with the exception of corn, are on schedule this year.
“Corn could possibly run about a week behind due to cooler than normal weather,” said Jason Bedsole, eastern sales manager for Duda Farm Fresh Foods. “We also produce celery and radishes in Michigan, primarily in the southwest region of the state.”
Bedsole noted that celery movement in Michigan will start around the end of July and run through the first week in October.
“Growing conditions for all crops have been good, including our popular ‘Dandy’ brand celery,” he added. “The crop is showing uniform size and excellent stands. We’ll have promotable volumes of ‘Dandy’ quality celery available the third or fourth week in July.”
He explained that the company continues to see increased customer demand for its Duda varieties and especially for the “Dandy” branded products.
“Customers have come to expect the consistent supplies of high-quality product we are known for,” said Bedsole. “Locally grown and regionally correct continues to be a focus of our customers, and we add on each year to satisfy this demand with our group of valued grower partners in Michigan.”
He also announced the addition of a new staff member at Duda Farm Fresh Foods. Mason Hamilton has joined the company’s Wellington, FL, fresh sales team as account manager.
“We are pleased to welcome Mason,” said Bedsole. “He is learning the Duda Farm Fresh Foods’ Eastern fresh sales operation. Mason has demonstrated excellent sales achievement and is poised for success at Duda Farm Fresh Foods.” Hamilton will report to Bedsole.
The company has been growing fresh products since 1909, when its founder, Andrew Duda, moved to the U.S. in search of the American dream. His vision was to provide people with farm fresh products that tasted as if they were grown in their very own gardens, and at an affordable price. That vision remains Duda Farm Fresh Foods’ primary goal today.
Andrew Duda’s vision has been passed down to five generations of family members who now strive for excellence and continue to keep the family’s farming business running strong.
