Biannual Fun ‘N Sun convention slated for July 29-Aug. 1
As part of its mission to get flowers from the field to consumers, the California Association of Flower Growers and Shippers will host its biannual Fun ‘N Sun convention July 29-Aug. 1 in Monterey, CA, according to a news release. The event, attended by California and regional growers, transportation and service providers, florists and designers, offers educational sessions and the California Flower Fair, which will feature thousands of different kinds of locally grown flowers and greens.
Educational sessions include a panel on family business succession and ownership transition issues, led by Kurt Glassman, president at Leadership One in Roseville, CA; J Schwanke from uBloom will present emerging trends, colors and floral designs; Brad Denham from Arizona Family Florist in Phoenix will address marketing options and campaigns to increase flower consumption; Joaquin De la Torre and Lourdes Reyes from Ball Seed will introduce attendees to new flower types and varieties; Robin Van der Schaaf from Flamingo Holland in Vista, CA, will present on lily breeding and lily bulb production; and Kasey Cronquist from the California Cut Flower Commission will discuss the Certified American Grown program.
Leading floral designers from across the United States — including Derrick Vasquez, Carol Caggiano, Susan Ayala, Lynn Moss, Lori Novak, Eddie Payne, Tom Simmons, and Michael Quesada — will showcase design trends and ideas.
Attendees will also enjoy tours of five area flower farms including California Pajarosa, CallaCo, CamFlor, Green Valley Floral and Kitayama Bros.
