Is summer living easy? Not for floral
Is summer living easy? Not for floral
In only a few days the Fourth of July will be upon us, and you will have officially survived the 2015 spring holidays. So now what? Is it time to kick back, go fishing and recover while waiting for the fall holidays? Nope. The business year isn’t over and there is still a lot of flower business waiting to be captured during the summer months — you just need to be creative to do it.
Many supermarket floral centers take advantage of the heavy rose production and lower prices in July to run in-store rose specials that both stimulate customer interest and bring extra cash to the coffers. I know that a lot of our readers have been successful in creating floral promotions that have helped take the slump out of summer sales. So, I am inviting you to share your summer promotional sales successes with us and then we, in turn, will share them with our readers in future issues. Simply email your promotion ideas and high-resolution photos to [email protected].
In this edition we offer on-the-scene coverage of the International Floriculture Expo in Chicago June 8-10; Robert Kitayama describes the differences between Dutch and California cut flower growing, based on his observations during a recent visit to Holland; we cover the success of the Memorial Day Flowers program and the celebration of Bloomaker’s expansion; explain the American Floral Endowment’s research grants; and preview several upcoming shows and conferences around the country.
Looking ahead to next month’s edition, we will present our annual rose feature that is designed to give you in-depth information on roses and tips to help you promote the most important flower in the industry.
See you then.
