Spice World continues on a strong roll with organic garlic
Spice World Inc., headquartered in Orlando, FL, is a California grower of Organic garlic. The company is 100 percent vertically integrated with its own seed program. It covers all aspects of the garlic industry, including growing, packing, sales, marketing and distribution.
Louis Hymel, director of purchasing and marketing, said the company is the leader in the garlic industry.
“By listening to our customers — and their customers, the end users — we’re able to continually be the innovators, always looking to offer consumers better and more convenient ways to use garlic,” said Hymel. “In turn, consumers use and purchase more garlic, driving supermarkets and distributors to increase volumes, movements and profits.”
Spice World has produced certified organic garlic for over a decade. Although the company’s line includes a wide range of spices and herbs, garlic is its specialty.
“We offer a complete line of organic garlic items,” explained Hymel. “It includes fresh whole bulbs in bulk, cello and mesh bags, whole peeled, ready-to-use organic jar garlic and our latest item, Organic ‘Squeeze Garlic.’ According to IRI Data, Spice World is America’s number one selling brand.”
The company is currently promoting its 20-ounce organic “Squeeze Garlic.” Hymel said it’s a value-added size which is convenient and always available.
Spice World is diversified in all aspects within the garlic industry. It provides total diversity in its customer range, including retail, foodservice and industrial customers.
“We continue to grow our foodservice and industrial divisions,” said Hymel. “Our complete line of garlic products and sizes meets all user demands.”
He pointed out that organic sales continue to increase every year, and the company increases its production annually to keep up with the demand. This steady increase is driven by consumers focusing on eating healthier.
“We’re installing another new grader for this year’s production to help maintain the increased demand,” added Hymel.
He also pointed out that the locally grown demand drives many produce items, and people feel good about perceived sustainability.
“However, certified organic makes a statement that is often not matched by local grown,” he said. “Many local restaurants attempt to do local sourcing for image, and doing so is easy with many items. Producing top-quality garlic on local levels is, however, difficult. Garlic requires a very long growing season, and it doesn’t grow well in many regions. California is the exception in that the climate and soil are perfectly matched with garlic production.”
Spice World distributes throughout North America and many offshore countries.
“We have structured our production to meet the demand very efficiently,” added Hymel.
