Oneonta introducing new apricot packaging
Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers has responded to customer requests with new packaging. “Our apricots will be available in a one-pound catch weight pouch bag,” said Director of Marketing Scott Marboe. “Lots of inquiry from customers asking if we could provide a package similar to the success cherries have had. So we are introducing [the new bag] this year.”
The company is headquartered in Wenatchee, WA, and is one of the leading producers of fruit in the Pacific Northwest.
Oneonta grows and markets conventional and organic apricots, peaches, nectarines and plums. Warmer conditions during the spring resulted in crop timing that is a little ahead of typical harvest windows. “Everything is early,” Marboe commented. “Cooler weather has pushed it to be a little more normal. But we are still early.”
Generally speaking, Oneonta’s stone fruit volume in 2015 will be similar to volume moved during the 2014 season. “We are up some on our apricots,” Marboe noted. A good mix of sizes is expected for all commodities, and Marboe said fruit quality will be excellent.
Apricot production is set to begin in mid-June.
Stone fruit is marketed under the company’s flagship label, “Starr Ranch Growers” to customers throughout North America.
