Navilio absorption is strong for La Galera
CHICAGO — Absorbing Michael J. Navilio & Son Inc. into the operations of La Galera Produce LLC has boosted sales volume, according to Jose (Pepe) Vega, a La Galera buyer and family owner.
As Jim Navilio actively works from a desk within La Galera, with him came his shippers and customers. Navilio’s product line was primarily made up of American vegetables.
“We were already doing well,” Vega noted, “but this has helped very much.”
Navilio had two units on the market and moved in with La Galera during the first week of March. Jim Navilio told The Produce News that his company was not in a strong financial position, so this change was good for him.
Vega said his firm owns three semi-trucks and three straight trucks to make deliveries. About 20 percent of La Galera’s volume is delivered. “We serve all of the retailers — independents, mostly,” he said.
The street trade on the market “is pretty good. It has not changed,” Vega noted.
