FPFC holds Northern California luncheon meeting in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA -- The Fresh Produce & Floral Council held its semi-annual Northern California luncheon meeting Tuesday, Sept. 12, here, which attracted a crowd from throughout the state.
Featured speaker Tom Rathman, a former NFL running back who achieved most of his success while playing with the San Francisco 49ers, used his experiences in football to discuss the important elements that can make any organization strong. He cited teamwork, vision, the expectation of success and a stated plan as the primary ingredients that led the 49ers to two Super Bowl championships during his eight years with the team.
Also of note during the meeting was the announcement by Jose Luis Obregon of the Hass Avocado Board of two fall retail promotions to fill the promotion gap when supplies of avocados are switching from one region to the next.
The avocado industry is intent on having year-round promotions to coincide with the year-round production coming from the United States, Mexico, Chile and other points of origin. HAB will sponsor two tailgate promotions in which joint promotions will be held with other food suppliers including Sutter Home wines.
The council also used the occasion to tout its first-ever Northern California expo, which will be held March 7 at the Alameda Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. The event is being patterned after the council's highly successful expo held in Southern California each year.
