Superior berries translate to success for Well-Pict
Building a successful berry program begins with highly focused attention to detail. For Well-Pict Berries, this means marketing superior fruit. “Well-Pict’s proprietary varieties are bred the old-fashioned way, through years of careful cross-pollination, to produce the best quality, most flavorful, good-looking berries, and they’re only available from Well-Pict,” said Jim Grabowski, director of marketing.
Grabowski said the company’s customers can be assured of consistent supplies of quality berries.
“Well-Pict’s growing regions are located along the coast of California and Baja, as well as Florida,” he told The Produce News. “All of our berries are produced in these areas. The slight variations in climate between the different regions allows for staggered harvest times, giving Well-Pict the ability to provide premium conventional and organic strawberries 12 months of the year, and conventional raspberries from April to November.”
Berry quality and sizing have been very good this year. “Our proprietary berry varieties are bred for qualities such as large size and superior flavor, and the berries have done well this season,” he commented.
The fruit is marketed to the company’s trading partners throughout the United States, into Canada and to other international markets. Well-Pict works individually with its customers on various programs designed to increase berry sales.
“Trends toward nutritious foods and healthier lifestyles continue to drive interest in strawberries,” he said.
This summer, Well-Pict will engage consumers with its “Where Will Your Berries Take You?” promotion, designed to attract consumers with the chance to win summer concert tickets of their choice. “Well-Pict is offering free retailer point-of-sale kits including posters, display cards and more,” Grabowski said. “The promotion kicks-off July 1, so retailers should order their free POS materials now on our website through June 6, at wellpict.com/poskit.”
