Gourmet Trading is cautiously optimistic about water conditions in California
Gourmet Trading Co. handles organic and conventional blueberries, with supplies produced in California, Argentina, Chile, Oregon, Canada, Florida, Georgia, Peru, North Carolina and New Jersey.
Scott Hulsey vice president of procurement for the company, said, “We have an additional 50 acres of blueberries being planted in California currently. Gourmet Trading’s programs are also growing in the Southeast.”
Hulsey also addressed the current drought in California.
The sun shines on Gourmet Trading’s California blueberry farms.“Water conditions continue to plague the California industry,” he said. “We are receiving just enough water to effectively manage our current operation. We are cautiously optimistic that this is a trend that will continue through the summer as temperatures really start to heat up.”
Julia Inestroza, marketing director, said that the company participates in the “We Are California Grown” locally grown program.
“We have seen favorable results from our involvement with the program,” Inestroza said.
She added that the company is a year-round supplier of blueberries.
Gourmet Trading ships its berries throughout North America, and it also exports to Asia.
In addition to blueberries, Gourmet Trading Co. supplies other year-round quality fruits and vegetables. The company services both retail stores and foodservice operations nationwide from its Los Angeles, Miami and New Jersey facilities.
