Sutherland Produce begins spring and summer campaign with expanded organic fruit lineup
Sutherland Produce Sales Inc., sales agent and distributor of organic fruit and vegetables, announced the expansion of its spring and summer organic fruit lineup to include a full complement of melons, increased table grape supply, artisan peaches and nectarines from Naylor Organics. Additionally, for the first time, it will handle a summer lemon and lime program from Viva Fresh of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
The warm dry weather out west this year has almost all crops starting early, according to Chris Ford, vice president of Sutherland Produce, based in El Cajon, CA.
“Although our organic Mexican peach program, typically available by mid-April, was lost this year due to excessive heat during bloom, our supply of tree ripened Naylor peaches and nectarines grown in Dinuba, California are always delicious and are expected to begin loading in mid-May,” Ford said in a press release.
According to the company, full-size and mini seedless watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe from Divine Flavor in Hermosillo, Mexico, are now available. Table grapes from Divine Flavor and from long-time Sutherland partner, Rucker Homestead in Thermal, CA, will also be available in May with supplies expected through September.
As for lemons and limes, “We’re very excited about our new summer program,” Odilon Anguiano, organic sales manager for Sutherland, added in the press release. “It now allows us to supply this versatile and healthy fruit continuously from July through February.”
