Southeast Produce Council raises $100,000 for charity
ATLANTA — The Southeast Produce Council raised the extraordinary sum of $100,000 for charity at its second annual Terry Vorhees Charity Golf Classic, held here May 4-5.
About 160 people attended the two-day event, and 127 golfers participated in the golf tournament, held at the beautiful Atlanta National Golf Club, according to SEPC Executive Director David Sherrod. The annual event is named for Terry Vorhees, one of the founders of the council, who died July 30, 2014.

Following the Cinco de Mayo welcome dinner Monday evening, attendees watched a video about Thompson Ritter, who underwent several surgeries for scoliosis at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Thompson's father, Charles Ritter, then spoke about his son's progress and long recovery, and thanked the Southeast Produce Council for its strong support of the outstanding work done by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
"You gave the Ritter family their son back," Charles told the hushed crowd. "I can't thank you enough for all the families" that have benefitted from the good work done by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. "Be proud of what you do, and know that you change lives."
A silent auction, a live auction, casino tables and a raffle were all part of Monday evening's activities to raise money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Prior to the start of the golf tournament Tuesday morning, Rocky (Rockstar) Shipes, known as America's top trick shot golf artist, performed some amazing shots that wowed the golfers.
The winning team at the golf classic consisted of Nate Branch, Dug Schwalls, Kellen Copeland and Clarke Hendrick, all of Southern Valley.
