E. Armata expands with new potato and onion department
In early May, E. Armata, located on Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx, NY, announced its expansion into a full-line company with the addition of a new year-round potato and onion department.
The program addition follows the completion of the total renovation of its facility, including its warehouses, salesroom and corporate offices with the latest technology, equipment and processes. Following completion of the project, it gained its GMP and HACCP certifications, in which it scored a 100 percent Superior rating.
“We are proud to represent some of the finest potato and onion shippers in the country,” said Louis Getzelman, potato and onion director, who joined the firm in late April. “Potatoes will include a full line of white, red, Yukon Gold, and Idaho. Onions will include a full range of reds, whites and yellows in all sizes and packages for retail and foodservice.”
E. Armata will handle potatoes up and down the East Coast with the annual season progressions. It is now shipping from Florida, and will continue northward in the Carolinas, Virginia, New Jersey, New York and into Maine.
“We will also carry Idaho potatoes year-round,” added Getzelman. “And we handle potatoes from California, Arizona and Washington, as well as from Minnesota.”
The onion line will include two-, three- and 10-pound bags for retail, and up to 50-pound foodservice bags.
“We are excited about the California deal currently starting,” said Getzelman. “It will run through late August, and following it we will move to the eastern Oregon crop, which will run through this time next year. Local New York onions are available year-round.
“We look toward to the future by building our line as we continue to maintain our strong relationships and create new partnerships with shippers and customers,” Getzelman added.
