SEPC gathers for charity golf tournament
ATLANTA — The Southeast Produce Council gathered here Monday, May 4, to enjoy a round of golf and, more importantly, to raise money for a very worthy cause: Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
About 160 people were expected to attend the two-day Terry Vorhees Charity Golf Classic, and 127 golfers were signed up for the golf tournament, according to SEPC Executive Director David Sherrod. The golf tournament will take place Tuesday, May 5, at the Atlanta National Golf Club.

After the Cinco de Mayo welcome dinner Monday evening, attendees watched a video about Thompson Ritter, who underwent several surgeries for scoliosis at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Thompson's father, Charles Ritter, then spoke about his son's progress and long recovery, and thanked the Southeast Produce Council for its strong support of the outstanding work done by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
"You gave the Ritter family their son back," Charles told the hushed crowd. "I can't thank you enough for all the families" that have benefitted from the good work done by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. "Be proud of what you do, and know that you change lives."
A silent auction, a live auction, casino tables and a raffle were all part of Monday evening's activities to raise money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The exact amount of the donation was expected to be announced following Tuesday's golf tournament.
