Curry & Co. looking at an early start for its Oregon blueberry deal
The 2015 Oregon blueberry season will start seven to 10 days earlier than usual due to a mild winter and warmer-than-typical spring. Harvest will start in the Willamette Valley with the popular Duke variety as early as June 1 and promotable volumes will be available the second week of June.
Oregon blueberries from Curry & Co. will be available from the start of the season until October.
“June and July will be great months for retailers to promote blueberries,” Matt Curry, president of Curry & Co., based in Brooks, OR, said in a press release. “We will have plenty of Oregon blueberries for Fourth of July promotions, and even for Father’s Day promotions with this early start. We are already seeing nice size in late April and are excited for the season to begin.”
During the peak of the season, Curry & Co. will pack primarily in six-ounce, one-pint, 18-ounce and two-pound clamshells. The larger size packages will be available from the first day of the season, until volumes start slowing down in late July when production will focus on the six-ounce clamshell.
Oregon is one of the largest blueberry-producing states in the nation and is the largest producing state on the West Coast. Other leading states include Michigan, New Jersey, Georgia, California and Washington.
Curry & Co. blueberries are packed and shipped from its warehouse in Brooks and from its Los Angeles warehouse.
Curry & Co. is a 52-week suppliers of blueberries, sweet onions and onions. Additionally, it has a seasonal Vidalia sweet carrot program and a seasonal West Coast blackberry program.
