Sundia goes international with watermelon juices
Sundia Corp., maker of watermelon juice and marketer of fresh watermelons, announced that it has expanded distribution into Hong Kong and Canada.
Sundia watermelon juices are now exclusively available at CitySuper Stores in Hong Kong, while nearly a dozen retailers will be selling the juices in Canada by the end of September.
"Watermelon juice is extremely popular throughout Asia," Brad Oberwager, chief executive officer of San Francisco-based Sundia Corp., said in a statement. "CitySuper stores in Hong Kong are the ideal purveyors for the juice in Hong Kong. Their stores are designed for busy urban professionals who want to enhance the quality of their lives."
Nine in 10 Canadians say that they try to make healthy eating decisions, according to a 2003 study by Ipsos-Reid. And according to Canada's National Institute of Nutrition, among Canadians' top health concerns are heart and circulatory diseases, and cancer -- all of which have been associated with diet and nutrition. These two facts bode well for Sundia watermelon juices.
Naturally loaded with vitamins A, B6, C, potassium and lycopene, Sundia's watermelon juices are made with 100 percent juice and contain no added sugar or preservatives. Scientific research suggests that lycopene helps fight off various cancers, heart disease and macular degeneration.
"The combination of taste and health benefits will make Sundia juices popular with Canadians," Geoff Acheson, president of Diversified Brands of Ontario, and the exclusive marketing and distribution arm of Sundia Corp. in Canada, said in the release.
According to Mr. Acheson, the following retailers are expected to have Sundia watermelon juices on their shelves in September: Sobey's Western Canada, HY Louie IGA, Whole Foods, Highland Farms, Thrifty's and Country Grocer. Mr. Oberwager said that the company will continue to aggressively seek international partners to distribute and market its juices.
