Riveridge adds to juice line
Riveridge Produce in Sparta, MI, announced the addition of 100 percent red tart cherry juice concentrate to its lineup of products.
According to the Cherry Marketing Institute, the latest research shows that Montmorency cherries have antioxidant properties that may relieve the pain of arthritis and gout. Specifically, Montmorency cherries contain melatonin, an antioxidant that attacks free radicals and could help prevent or reduce brain deterioration. Other antioxidants present in red tart cherries also may help prevent cancer and heart disease, according to research.
And anthocyanins in tart cherries have the potential to prevent inflammation and could inhibit the growth of cancer tumors, according to researchers at Michigan State University.
Each case from Riveridge contains 12 32-ounce plastic jugs, that have a shelf life of eight months. The concentrate must be kept refrigerated.
Tart cherry juice concentrate can be used in a number of ways, including diluted with water and consumed as juice, as a tasty addition to lemonade or tea, or spooned over ice cream or angel food cake.
Riveridge represents growers throughout Michigan and markets approximately one-third of Michigan's fresh apple crop every year. The company also represents growers in the top apple-producing regions of the United States as well as those in South America.
