Spring means watermelon, sweet corn and asparagus for Scotlynn Sweet-Pac Growers
As consumers begin bursting from their doors to enjoy the warm spring air, produce companies that produce and ship typical spring and summer crops will inevitably feel a strong push.
Scotlynn Sweet-Pac Growers LLC produces sweet corn, and it is a good example of a company that will likely reap the benefits of spring following the long, extremely cold winter storms that — one after another — swept across the nation.
“Our Florida spring sweet corn crop looks very strong,” said Bryan Biederman, vice president of the company. “We have had very favorable growing conditions this spring. Our year-to-year planted acreage continues to increase and we are very excited about our quality and added volume out of Belle Glade.”

He added that the company is encouraging its customers to promote Florida sweet corn in a big way.
“After a very tough winter in most parts of the U.S. and Canada, nothing says, ‘spring is here’ like fresh ‘Sweet Pac’ corn,” he said.
Scotlynn Sweet-Pac Growers also produces watermelon. Biederman said this season’s crop is also progressing nicely.
“A start date of mid-April is targeted for watermelon,” he said. “Our customers love our high-graphic watermelon bins, which are another welcome sight in the stores and a sign that spring has arrived.”
Scotlynn Sweet-Pac Growers is headquartered in Vittoria, ON. Biederman explained that the Canadian farm will have its inaugural cut of asparagus this May.
“With over 300 acres in Ontario now ready to cut, for the first time the ‘Sweet Pac’ label will be featured on asparagus,” he said. “We are extremely excited to bring this commodity to the marketplace.”
Over the winter the company took delivery of a brand new, state-of-the-art sizing and packingline. Biederman said the company hopes to exceed expectations from a quality standpoint as the asparagus comes out of the gate in May.
He also pointed out that although Scotlynn Sweet-Pac Growers’ focus is primarily on sweet corn, having other commodities in other regions has proven to be a major asset.
“Pumpkins, watermelons and now asparagus allow us to offer a nice range of products on a year-round basis,” he said.
“And speaking of valuable assets, Scotlynn USA, based in Fort Myers, Florida, our sister logistics company, operates a modern fleet that transports perishable commodities all over North America,” he added. “Just look for our ‘Sweet Pac’ logo the next time you are on the highway.”
