Samuel Napolitano, longtime produce veteran, dies at 84
Samuel S. Napolitano, a New Jersey produce veteran known for handling seasonal juice grapes and New Jersey plum tomatoes, died Thursday, March 12. He was 84.
Mr. Napolitano started out as a second-generation peddler working for his father before starting his own wholesale produce company: Englewood, NJ-based Samuel S. Napolitano Produce Inc.
Samuel S. Napolitano His life was dedicated to the produce business, and he was active in the Hunts Point Terminal Market on a daily basis until his stroke in 2007.
Mr. Napolitano was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his sisters, Margaret DellaTorre and Antoinette Ottino; his brother, Joseph Napolitano; son, Allan, and his wife, LuAnne, of Harrington Park, NJ; and grandchildren Allan, Michael, James and Anthony.
He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda (nee Wisneski); his parents, Joseph Napolitano and Antoinette Bianco; and his sisters Mary Grande, Rose Becker and Theresa Timpone.
He is remembered fondly by his growers, shippers, and customers.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Harrington Park, NJ, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hackensack, NJ.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, March 18, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, NJ.
