Indianapolis Fruit holds 19th annual trade show and golf outing
A nice mix of business and social events was enjoyed by roughly 300 people who attended Indianapolis Fruit's 19th annual trade show and golf outing July 24-25 in Indianapolis.
Kicking off the two-day event July 24 were presentations at the Indiana State Museum by Bryan Silbermann, president of the Produce Marketing Association, and Tonya Antle, vice president of organic sales for Earthbound Farm, a leading distributor of organic produce based in San Juan Bautista, CA.
Following the presentations, an exposition was held featuring products from over 80 produce and floral vendors. Indianapolis Fruit promoted its own certified organic "Garden Cut" line of products, which is comprised of 12 different pre-cut items. The six vegetable products are celery, carrots, a celery-carrot combo, peppers, onions and a 40-ounce vegetable tray; the six fruit items in the line are cantaloupe, honeydew, mixed fruit, pineapple, watermelon and a 50-ounce fruit tray.
Shane Towne, marketing and new business development coordinator for Indianapolis Fruit, said that the organic "Garden Cuts" line includes basic items because "a lot of times retailers who are just starting to get into organic cut packs just want the main items."
Of the importance of the trade show, Mr. Towne said that the two or three hours spent walking the show are "very crucial for us to have our customers come face-to-face with the suppliers."
Following the trade show, a dinner was served, with dishes prepared from ingredients supplied by the vendors. A tour of the facility capped off the day's festivites.
A golf tournament was held July 25 at the Eagle Creek Golf Course, with "well over 200 golfers participating," said Mr. Towne. "It's all about relationships in this business, and we were happy to have brought together our customers and vendors."
