Farm Star Living's Blackmon honored in Country Woman magazine
Mary Blackmon, founder of Farm Star Living, a national lifestyle brand highlighting farms, farm-fresh foods and the farm-to-table food movement, has been selected as one of Country Woman magazine's "Most Amazing Women." In honor of its anniversary, Country Woman has identified their 45 "Amazing Women" — including Tricia Yearwood, Loretta Lynn, Danica Patrick and Blackmon.
Country Woman dubbed Blackmon the "Accidental Farmer," as she had at one time been more familiar with manicures than with getting her hands dirty.
Mary Blackmon Before her life as a farmer, Blackmon was the founder and chief executive officer of Spa-Addicts.com, one of the first national Internet spa discount sites. All that changed in 2009, when she opted to give her pampered life the boot in order to save her family's farm on the border of Arkansas and Louisiana. Finding herself inspired as never before by her farm and the farmers around her, Blackmon felt compelled to launch a new company: farmstarliving.com.
"It's so easy to support American farmers, and anyone can do it by taking a farm tour or visit, eating at a farm-to-table restaurant, or purchasing more farm-fresh food," Blackmon said in a press release. "We're all about encouraging more and more people to embrace a farm-conscious way of life — a lifestyle we call Farm Star Living!"
Championing the farmer, farm activities, and the farm-to-table movement, Farm Star Living's website offers monthly content, including lifestyle interviews with farmers, plus a robust farm-to-table directory profiling farm-to-table restaurants across the United States. There's also a "Farm Fun" directory, searchable by state, as well as by activities like berry picking, milk-a-cow, petting zoos, farm tours, B&B's and cattle drives. The Healthy Living A-Z Farm Food guide provides health, nutrition information and fun facts on more than 100 fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables.
Farm Star Living also offers a free app to find farm-to-table eateries and farm fun near all across the United States.
