New York Apple Sales’ Kaari Stannard says apple demand and movement are excellent this season
“We have excellent quality apples this season,” said Kaari Stannard, president of New York Apple Sales Inc., headquartered in Castleton, NY. Pack-outs are higher this year and we have a very good stored crop for taste and quality.”
Stannard added that demand was also very good in early December.

“We do have increase in production, but movement has been excellent to date,” she said.
New York Apple Sales is the marketing arm for Empire Fruit Growers Co-op, which is an apple fruit packer. It claims to be the largest and most geographically diverse sales agency in New York state. Its growers and packing facilities are located in all of the major growing regions in New York, insuring it of a consistent supply of quality fruit with greater packing and shipping flexibility.
The company ships approximately one-third of New York’s fresh apple crop to retail chain stores, wholesalers, foodservice operators and terminal markets throughout the United States weekly. It also exports apples to foreign countries.
“We are exporting the Empire variety to Israel, England, Singapore and Vietnam,” noted Stannard.
Besides the Empire, New York Apple Sales handles a full line of apple varieties. It also imports apples to help it fill customer demand.
