Perishables Group provides data solutions to Giant Food Stores
The Perishables Group, a Chicago-based independent consulting firm specializing in the fresh foods industry, formed an information sharing agreement with Giant Food Stores to provide data and tools to implement a customized perishables performance tracking and category development program for its operating companies.
The agreement will enable Giant, its Tops division and supplier partners to gain new insights into category performance across the perishables departments including produce, meat, seafood, deli and bakery.
"Information to strategically analyze perishables performance has not been available in the past," Phillip Helms, senior vice president of perishables for Giant Food Stores and Tops Markets, said in a statement. "This information will help us more effectively identify new opportunities in perishables and enable our supplier partners to better understand our performance in relation to market performance."
The new supplier partnership program will allow Giant Food Stores and Tops to monitor perishables performance vs. the competition and strategically analyze data from ACNielsen. The department and category data/reporting provides segment and item detail.
Bruce Axtman, president and chief executive officer of the Perishables Group, added in the statement, "We are very pleased to expand the scope of our work with Giant Food Stores. We look forward to helping this chain build on its success through direct involvement in its merchandising activities and in facilitating information sharing with its key suppliers."
