CCOF manager to head Driscoll's organic program
Driscoll Strawberry Associates Inc. in Watsonville, CA, announced that Brian McElroy has joined its management team as organic business manager. Mr. McElroy comes to Driscoll from California Certified Organic Farmers, where he held the position of certification services manager for the last 12 years.
According to John Siletto, vice president of Driscoll's production group, Mr. McElroy will be responsible for implementation of Driscoll's organic business plan. "Brian is well schooled in the entire organic industry on an international level, and has been involved in organic farming policy and promotion for many years. He will be the focal point for organics throughout the company," Mr. Siletto said in a statement.
"Driscoll's has made a strong commitment to organic production," Mr. Siletto continued. "Brian will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals in North America, Central America and South America."
"Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with Driscoll's personnel and I have been impressed by their professionalism and the high standards they bring to their work," Mr. McElroy said in the release. "For me, watching a company like Driscoll's embrace organic is a strong signal, and I hope to make a significant contribution as the company expands its organic program."
Mr. McElroy holds a master's degree in agricultural economics from the University of California-Davis. He served in the Peace Corps and has worked in land-use management in the San Francisco Bay area prior to joining CCOF. He is married and lives with his wife and two children in Davenport, CA.
Driscoll Strawberry Associates is a third-generation, family-owned-and- operated company. Its fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, both conventional and organic, are grown by independent farmers around the world and sold under the "Driscoll" brand.
