Panorama Produce continues to grow mango deal
Eric Nagelberg of Panorama Produce in Mamaroneck, NY, said the firm’s mango business continues to grow steadily.
“Each year we grow, which is a great because it is a very important crop for us,” said Nagelberg, a son of one of Panorama Produce’s founders.
Jeff (Eric’s dad) and Rick Nagelberg started Panorama Produce more than 30 years ago. Mangos have grown into one of the firm’s top items. Initially, the company brokered mangos 12 years ago, but now Panorama has become an importer, bringing in mangos from many different production regions on a 12-month basis.
Nagelberg said the firm’s location — northeast of New York City not too far from the Connecticut-New York border — is an advantage when dealing with the company’s customers in and around the New York metropolitan area. Most of the mango exporters tend to be in Miami, “and so we think it helps in working with our own customers.”
The firm has customers across the board including wholesalers, foodservice operators and retailers. Its customer list is also diverse geographically. Panorama has a large percentage of its customers in the Northeast but Panorama does ship to many areas of the country, including Florida, Texas, California, Chicago and other places in the Midwest.
Besides its many mango deals, Panorama Produce also has a very strong watermelon program and brings in a lot of vegetables and melons from the West Coast to its East Coast customers.
Nagelberg called this past year “a challenging but good year,” and he looks forward to continuing to meet the challenges of an evolving marketplace.
