WF&FSA adds two new showcases to 2014 event
The 2014 Floral Distribution Conference Oct. 22-24 at the Trump National Doral Resort in Miami will focus on networking, business opportunities and education. Under the banner “Connect, Learn, and Grow,” the two-and-a-half day event is designed to provide high-impact value, according to an association news release.
The annual conference of the Wholesale Florist & Florist Supplier Association will offer two new showcases this year — the New Products Showcase and the Breeder’s Showcase, both bringing the latest in products to attendees. A new product for this program is defined as one that is manufactured or exclusively distributed by a company exhibiting at this year’s conference and was introduced to the marketplace after last year’s conference.
The education program includes an expanded “The Today Show,” anchored by Ramiro (Robin) Peñaherrera, director of Flowers for Kids and Memorial Day Flower Foundation, and will feature a panel program focused on retail, supermarkets, event planners, e-commerce, social media impact, and more. Additional segments include the Genius Bar featuring a wholesale buyers panel, interviews and the WF&FSA commercials.
The general session presentation by Steve McClatchy, founder of Alleer Training and Consulting, is entitled “The Business of You — Double Your Productivity, Reduce Your Stress and Balance Your Life” and will cover ways to better manage your to-do list and to finally get organized. Two business workshops will also be offered on “Low-Budget Marketing” and “Solution-Based Selling,” along with WF&FSA’s Design Trends Program featuring Kevin Ylvisaker, floral trend consultant and owner of KLY Floral International.
The Leland T. Kintzele Distinguished Service Award will be presented at a breakfast award session. Last year’s honoree was Jim Wanko, former executive vice president of WF&FSA. Named after a WF&FSA president who led the organization from 1963-66, the LTK award is the highest honor given annually by the organization since 1973. Also, Porterfield’s Flowers & Gifts in Topeka, KS, will be highlighted as the 2014 Retail Florist of the Year.
