JBJ Distributing to open office in Indiana
Fullerton, CA-based JBJ Distributing Inc. is planning a July 5 opening of a regional sales office in Crown Point, IN, about three- quarters of an hour from Chicago.
Rob Gurney, who has been with JBJ for 12 years, will run the one- person office for the company, which is a subsidiary of Veg-Land Sales Inc., also based in Fullerton. Veg-Land Inc., a 110,000- square-foot warehouse, and Flower Land -- flowers for retailers -- also are subsidiaries of JBJ and are based in Fullerton. The Crown Point facility will be JBJ's first regional office.
Jimmy Matiasevich, a salesman in the Matiasevich family-owned operation, said that Mr. Gurney would have easier access to his customers because of his proximity to Chicago. He spends much of his time on the road, with Fullerton as his base.
Mr. Gurney has accounts up and down the East Coast and beyond. There are no restrictions on his territory, and the Chicago hub will help him service existing accounts as well as develop new ones. Those accounts include retailers such as Kroger, Hannaford, Price Shopper, Publix and Winn-Dixie.
Mr. Gurney will have more face time and be able to be in certain stores more often, Mr. Matiasevich said. "This is a test for now," Mr. Matiasevich said. "We look to do many more regional offices in the future."
He said that the JBJ family of companies offers consolidation opportunities to customers.
