Augie Consalo, N.J. produce veteran, dies at 81
Augustus (Augie) Consalo of Vineland, NJ, died Aug. 21 at Kennedy Stratford Hospital. He was 81.
Mr. Consalo was former vice president of William Consalo & Sons Farms Inc. and past president of W.C.S. Trucking Inc. He was a member and former two-term president of the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association for the state of New Jersey and a member of the Produce Marketing Association.
Augustus (Augie) ConsaloIn 1995 he was named Produce Man of the Year and was honored by the Vegetable Growers Association of New Jersey for outstanding service to the industry.
He was a member of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association and the New Jersey Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Vineland Chamber of Commerce & Landisville Fruit Growers Association. In the past, Mr. Consalo was honored by the Vineland Produce Auction, the city of Vineland and Cumberland County, as well as the New Jersey Senate & General Assembly.
He had also received the Merit Badge of Honor from the Produce Reporter Blue Book and the Business Character Award for Ethical Methods of Operation from the Packer Red Book.
Mr. Consalo was a member of the Italian American Society of Vineland, St. Anthony Society in Glassboro and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish (St. Michael's Church).
Born in Medford, he lived in Glassboro before moving in 1951 to Landisville and then Vineland in 1962. He was a 1951 graduate of Glassboro High School.
In his free time, Mr. Consalo enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Mr. Consalo is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Blithe) Consalo; his daughter and son-in-law, Dottie and Brian Kargman; his grandson Mark Kargman; his grandson David Kargman and wife Leah. Mr. Consalo is also survived by his brother Vincent Consalo Sr. and wife Hope, and two sisters, Philomena Giunta and Elaine D'Ottavio. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Mildred Consalo, Floss Blithe and Floss Schauer. Mr. Consalo was predeceased by his son William (Billy) Consalo; parents Louise and William Consalo Sr.; brother William Jr. and his twin brother Anthony (Andy).
Church Visitations will be on Tuesday evening, Aug. 26 from 6-9 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning, Aug. 27 from 9-11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 am at Our Lady Of The Blessed Sacrament-Church Of St. Michael in Minotola, NJ. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Vineland.
