Growers Express partners plan more involvement
As of the start of June, several employees of Salinas, CA-based Growers Express LLC are no longer with the company.
Gone are Randolph Breschini, president; Barry Eisenberg, vice president of technical services, and Marty Metcalf, director of logistics. Woody Johnson, vice president of sales and marketing for Growers Express, declined to specify the nature of the departures other than to confirm that the three are no longer employed with the company.
Mr. Breschini joined Growers Express as its president in August 2004. Upon his hiring, Mr. Breschini's role was to oversee all aspects of Growers Express and its affiliated organizations, American Growers Cooling Co. and Express Harvesting Inc.
Barry Eisenberg joined Growers Express in July 2004 as its vice president of technical services. Mr. Johnson said that among his duties, Mr. Eisenberg oversaw food safety and quality control. John Eade, who reported to Mr. Eisenberg, will take over food safety and quality control responsibilities.
"The six member-partners have opted to get more involved in the business," Mr. Johnson said. "We're alive and well."
One partner -- Sam McKinsey -- will direct overall agricultural operations. John Casazza -- vice president of agricultural operations -- remains in his current role.
Other partners will become more visible, Mr. Johnson said. In addition to Mr. McKinsey, the other five partners are David Gill, Mike Hitchcock, Stan Pura, Ron Harney and John Romans.
Jamie Strachan has been installed as interim general manager. Though he comes from outside the company, Mr. Strachan has been involved with the partners in several financial vehicles. For instance, the company that Mr. Strachan came from is a third-party administrator of Grower Express's group health plan.
Gary Andreason has retained the role of director of product management and runs the day-to-day sales floor. Mr. Johnson also is involved in product management duties.
