'VegDeLite' moving to six-ounce packaging
This summer Miami-based Growers Are Us is rolling out a new six-ounce package of its “VegDeLite”-brand single-serving vegetables.
Dan Wahl, who founded the company in January 2013, said the new size is to bring consumers greater value than the three-ounce packaging his firm introduced in October 2013.
Wahl, who has decades of experience trading produce from Central America, grows the VegDeLite produce in Guatemala. They are then packed in see-through packaging, with attractive full-color labels at a Guatemala facility that is Primus and EurepGAP food safety certified.
The six options of VegDeLite include packaging with strictly sugar snap peas or sno peas. The three other packages include some combination of these peas with precut carrots, broccoli or English peas. Wahl said asparagus may become a new ingredient option this fall.
In addition to offering these single-serving, value-added items, Growers Are Us is an importer of traditional packs of Guatemalan and Peruvian sno peas and sugar snaps. Wahl also imports Peruvian asparagus.
