Packaged Fiesole artichokes now available from Legacy Farms
Colorful Fiesole artichokes are being packaged and marketed exclusively by Legacy Farms, a Buena Park, CA-based grower, packer and distributor. It is the first value-added produce item to carry the "Legacy" brand.
The Fiesole variety, featuring a dark purple color, originated in the European growing areas of Provence in France, and Tuscany and Veneto in Italy, and is now grown along the central coast of California.
Smaller than the traditional green California artichoke, the Fiesole is famous for its tenderness, taste and color, which does not fade when cooked. Besides steaming or boiling, the variety is delicious stir fried or saut?ed. Available in a two- or a four-count package that carries a UPC stripe, the Fiesole (pronounced fee-ess-olay) will be available through mid-October.
The Legacy brand will also be used on a number of items including hot-house tomatoes, bell peppers and green beans, according to Nick Cancellieri, a Legacy Farms partner.
