The United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association, based in Washington, DC, announced that it has hired Autumn Veazey as director of legislative affairs and associate counsel.
"Autumn brings a great set of credentials to this position at United," United President Tom Stenzel said in a statement. "Her family has strong roots in the produce industry, and we will be able to utilize her personal background along with her professional training to enhance and expand our government relations expertise in Washington, DC."
Prior to joining United, Ms. Veazey served as a litigation attorney for the firm of Moore, Ingram, Johnson & Steele LLC in Marietta, GA. Prior to that, she worked as a legislative aide in Washington, DC, for the Redding Firm, an agriculture consulting firm that serves a number of Georgia clients. During her time in Washington, she also worked for U.S. Sen. Paul Coverdell (R-GA), and in 2000, Ms. Veazey was the campaign manager for Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), who is now chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
"Autumn's strong political background and key contacts will make her an integral part of United's government relations team," Robert Guenther, vice president of public policy, said in a statement. "As Autumn transitions into her new role, we look forward to her work with the industry and with our political allies here in our nation's capital."
"This is a unique opportunity for me to use my agricultural background, legal skills and past political experience to advocate for the produce industry," Ms. Veazey said. "United is well respected among the industry, and I am very excited to be a part its team."
United began a nationwide search for a new director of legislative affairs in March when Keira Franz, who held the position for the past three years, accepted a job at the National Association of Conservation Districts as senior director of government affairs.
