Supreme Cuts looking forward to foodservice show
MAHWAH, NJ — As it has for many years, Supreme Cuts is very much looking forward to the Produce Marketing Association’s annual Foodservice Conference & Expo, scheduled this year for July 25-27 at the Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, CA.
Supreme Cuts, a precut vegetable processor perhaps best known for its high-quality line of snipped green beans, has been attending the popular foodservice conference for more than six years. “It’s a great show for us,” company President Merle Axelrod told The Produce News Friday, June 20, at Supreme Cuts’ office, here in the northwestern suburbs of New York City. “It’s one of our best shows. You have a great audience. It’s a great venue for our key customers and for prospective customers.”
She also finds the size and venue of the show to be ideal. “The show is small enough and has a relaxed feel to it,” she said. “People walk the show relaxed and spend time with you. And Monterey is a beautiful location, so everyone’s happy to be there.”
The company president also likes the timing of the PMA foodservice conference. “It’s a great time of the year to start thinking ahead,” she stated. “It’s a great time to introduce new items.”
David Axelrod founded the company 12 years ago as a trimmed green bean processor. It has grown steadily since then to be “a diverse vegetable and fruit processor,” she said. “We have expanded our processing items to include a wide variety of diced and sliced items.” Chopped kale salad and kale blend of salad are just two examples of new items from the company. “We are working on other items as well,” which will be released soon, she noted.
However, “green beans will always be a key part of our business,” said Merle, who joined the firm on an active basis seven years ago after working for many years in senior positions in both the computer software industry and the produce distribution industry.
Merle and David Axelrod will be showcasing many of the company’s items at Booth No. 84 at the PMA foodservice show, along with Dana Mulroy, the firm’s manager of customer services, and perhaps one additional salesperson.
Supreme Cuts is a family-run business “with an eye on food safety, quality and service,” Merle said proudly. “One of the huge benefits of a family-run company is that we can keep an eye on all aspects of the business. Service level is a high priority for us, and will always remain so.”
