'Foxy' unveils purple cauliflower products
SALINAS, CA -- The color purple is now available in two new healthy and fresh produce items sold under the "Foxy" brand name.
"Foxy" brand purple cauliflower, developed over the past two years in Europe, is now available exclusively from The Nunes Co. Inc., with production in the Salinas Valley. Using a propriety seed developed by Dutch seed company Daehnfeldt, the purple color comes from the formation of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins posses antioxidant properties that help protect people by neutralizing oxidizing molecules that form in the bloodstream. The formation of anthocyanins is also found in red cabbage and in red wine.
"In addition to the radiant and rich coloring, 'Foxy' purple cauliflower has nearly 10 times the level of antioxidants than traditional white cauliflower," Matt Seeley, marketing director of the Nunes Co., said in a statement. "With greater consumer awareness to the benefits of antioxidants in their daily diet, purple cauliflower provides a tremendous healthy and nutritious option for all consumers."
Purple cauliflower is available through November in size-12 pack cartons.
Also new is CauliColors, a value-added fresh-cut product featuring "Foxy" purple cauliflower florets with a combination of white, orange and green cauliflower florets. Ideal for foodservice and consumer use, CauliColors is a bright and bold blend of florets that adds zest and excitement to both side dishes and entrees. Available in a nine-ounce bag, CauliColors is available year round from Foxy Foods.
