VOC hires compliance officer
The Vidalia Onion Committee in Vidalia, GA, has announced an addition to its internal staff. William Braddy of Vidalia joined the office this growing season as the committee's compliance officer.
Mr. Braddy worked for Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service for 14 years as a field officer and is also self-employed as a home improvement contractor. He will spend at least three days a week traveling throughout the 20-county Vidalia growing region calling on the growers and handlers at their businesses to address any compliance questions they might have and to ensure that they are submitting required reports and paying assessment fees in accordance with the committee's approved compliance plan.
Handlers pay a percentage of the revenue received from all onion shipments to the committee, which then uses the funds for marketing and research.
Mr. Braddy joins the committee's existing staff, Executive Director Wendy Brannen and Executive Assistant Yvonne Clark. Ms. Brannen said in a release that the decision to hire Mr. Braddy is part of the office's increasing efforts to comply with the committee's governing document, Marketing Order 955, and to act in accordance with U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations and the committee's approved compliance plan.
"Braddy has experience making calls on farmers and conducting audits," said Ms. Brannen. "And his attitude should prove beneficial in getting along with Vidalia's 102 registered growers and handlers while still assuring they are in compliance with the order and committee rules."
