Inaugural year at Bloxom good for Magnaghi
Bryon Magnaghi said his first year as sales manager at F.C. Bloxom Co. has been successful. The company is headquartered in Seattle, WA, and Magnaghi is manning the office in Walla, Walla, WA. He brings more than three decades of experience in the produce industry and has developed a broad range of contacts over the years.
F.C. Bloxom began selling produce more than 75 years ago, starting with apple growing operations in Washington’s Yakima Valley.
Magnaghi worked with Bloxom prior to becoming sales manager. “It’s been an easy transition,” he told The Produce News. “The year has gone really well for the new office.” He said his physical presence in Walla Walla has allowed him to closely monitor a variety of crops during their production seasons. These include onions, potatoes, asparagus, apples and pears.
Looking at this year’s Walla Walla sweet onion season, Magnaghi said, “We had a pretty bad winter.” There was some kill to the fall planted crop.
But weather is warming, and Magnaghi said he is out in the field monitoring production. Fields show a variety of conditions “from nice to bad,” he stated. “Things are starting to grow now. But we have six to seven weeks to go.”
He expects the harvest to begin sometime between June 20-27. “Volume will be light in the beginning,” he stated. Magnaghi said he is generally expecting a mix of sizes depending fields in which the onions are grown.
Magnaghi said Bloxom markets onions nationwide and into Canada.
