Sweet Clover shipping Walla Walla Sweet Salad Onions through May
One sure sign of spring is the new crop of Walla Walla Sweet Salad Onions, early Walla Walla Sweets shipped by Sweet Clover Produce in Walla Walla, WA.
Sweet Clover Sales Manager Bill (Sweet Willie) Brownfield told The Produce News on May 1 the salad sweets would start shipping the week of May 5, and the short window will extend through the month.

Christine Gregoire several years ago.
“Heat units were good this week,” he continued. “So I'd say we'll be ready to ship our full-sized Walla Walla Sweets in mid-June, which is going with our normal schedule.”
The majority of Walla Walla Sweets shipped by Sweet Clover Produce are grown by the father-son team of Fernando Enriquez Sr. and Fernando Enriquez Jr. Brownfield said the men are experts in producing the famed globes.
“Our Walla Walla Sweets are always naturally sweet,” he said. The onions will ship under the “Sweet Clover Sweets” and “Gloria” labels and are available in cartons and consumer packs.
As the Walla Walla Sweet season runs into September, Sweet Clover will also begin shipping its other Northwest onions. Organic reds, yellows and sweets and conventional reds and whites will begin moving in mid-July, with supplies anticipated to be good through April 2015.
Red Wing single-center reds grown by Grigg & Sons in Quincy, WA, will also begin shipping in mid-July.
