FNGLA to give awards at annual meeting
Chet Peckett, owner of Peckett’s Inc. in Apopka, FL, will receive the Wendell E. Butler Award for service to the Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association at the association’s annual meeting June 21. The meeting is part of the FNGLA’s two-day convention at the Marriott Sawgrass Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
FNGLA Industry Award winners are selected from a pool of nominations received from the association’s members-at-large. The FNGLA Industry Awards Committee is comprised of the eight most recent recipients of the Wendell E. Butler Award. Awardees were announced in an April FNGLA news release.
Larry Walker of Nurseryman’s Sure-Gro in Vero Beach, FL, and Jake Koornneef of Delray Plants in Venus, FL, will both be posthumously inducted into the FNGLA Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement in the nursery and landscape industry.
Also honored at the meeting will be Ty Strode of AgriStarts Inc. in Apopka, FL, who will receive the Farm Credit/FNGLA Young Nursery Professional award; and Ananth Prasad, secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation in Tallahassee, FL, will be named the association’s Friend of the Industry.
Shaun Brown of Shade Tree Farm in Morriston, FL, who heads the Frontrunners chapter, will receive the Outstanding Chapter President award, and Lou Harrelson of Salmon’s Wholesale Nursery in Ocala, FL, also from the Frontrunners chapter, will be named Outstanding Chapter Secretary-Treasurer.
The Outstanding Volunteer Member award will be given to Mike Tevelonis of Botanics Wholesale in Homestead, FL, and the Outstanding Educator award will go to Erin Harlow of the University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences, Duval County Extension, in Jacksonville, FL.
The FNGLA annual meeting and award ceremony is open to all FNGLA members and does not require registration.
The convention offers multiple opportunities to connect and network.
A special behind-the-scenes tour of the Tournament Players Club Sawgrass clubhouse and grounds is available to convention registrants. Attendance is limited to 50 people.
