Cal Pine's Kent Pidduck dies at 58
Kent A. Pidduck of Cal Pine Distributors LP in Westlake Village, CA, died April 23. He was 58.
The cause of death was still under investigation as of May 10, press time for The Produce News' May 15 issue.
Mr. Pidduck was born Dec. 26, 1947 in Ventura, CA, to Art and Frances Pidduck. He lived his entire life in Ventura County, spending his early years on the family farm in Oxnard, CA. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1970 with a degree in ag business. During his senior year at Cal Poly he interned at Sunkist Growers Inc., where he was hired as a full-time staffer after graduation. He joined Cal Pine Distributors in 1971 as a sales associate and became a partner in 1977.
Mr. Pidduck was a well-respected and active member of the produce industry. He served as a board member of the Fresh Produce Council and was active in the Produce Marketing Association and the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association. Mr. Pidduck was remembered by his colleagues as a loyal friend, an honorable business associate and a man of principle. "Everyone who knew this humble and gentle man will miss his compassionate spirit and kind heart," the company said in a statement.
Mr. Pidduck is survived by his wife, Nancy; his 10-year-old son, Tyler; his mother, Frances Pidduck; his sister, Karen Vied, and brother-in-law, Dennis Vied; his niece, Jennifer Vied Geiger, and her husband, Ryan Geiger; and many other family members. He was predeceased by his father, Art Pidduck.
Next to spending time with his family, Mr. Pidduck's passion in life was golf. A celebration honoring him and that passion was held April 25 at Saticoy Country Club in Somis, CA. A private burial will be held at a later date.
