Dole launches six new salad kits and blends
Dole Fresh Vegetables of Monterey, CA, today announced the addition of six new salad kits and blends: two additions to the DOLE All Natural Chopped Salad line introduced last year; a new addition to Dole’s line of Caesar salad kits; and an entirely new line of super greens.
All six new products have been specifically formulated with kale, an increasingly popular green that combines a distinctive taste with high levels of antioxidant vitamins A, C and K, calcium and phytonutrients.
Continuing its trend of capitalizing on the latest wellness trends and consumer preferences, Dole' line of super-greens blends combines maximum flavor and nutrient density with everyday clamshell convenience and versatility.
The new DOLE Power Up Greens arrive in stores nationwide starting today as a new line of packaged greens delivering powerfully nutritious and delicious fresh blends that can easily be tossed into a wide variety of recipes, including salads, smoothies and stir-fry dishes. The three initial SKUs in 4.5-ounce clamshells with re-sealable lids will retail for $2.49 to $3.29. Product extensions are expected as demand dictates.
Dole's three new Power Up Greens are DOLE Power Up Baby Kale, 100 percent DOLE baby kale; DOLE Power Up Baby Kale & Greens, a blend of DOLE baby kale, baby spinach, baby green chard and baby red chard; and DOLE Power Up Spring Mix & Greens, a blend of DOLE spring mix, baby green chard and baby green kale.
"Dole's new Power Up line has been created for the health-focused consumer wanting an all-natural, nutrient-dense replacement for energy drinks and power bars," Chris Mayhew, vice president of marketing for Dole Fresh Vegetables, said in a press release. "These consumers are looking for a maximum taste and nutrition payoff. The Power Up line will target fitness enthusiasts and those new to the super greens segment who may be unfamiliar with the powerful taste, nutrition and psychological benefits."
Dole is also introducing a fifth member of the Dole Caesar family, providing consumers with a new way to eat Caesar and a tastier way to eat kale. The new DOLE Kale Caesar Salad Kit combines the best of both worlds: powerfully nutritious super greens and Dole's popular Caesar recipe.
This new kit features a blend of baby kale, spinach and crunchy shredded broccoli combined with shaved Parmesan-Romano cheeses, roasted garlic croutons and Dole's popular Caesar dressing. It arrives in stores nationwide today and will sell for a suggested retail price of $3.99, which is consistent with Dole's other premium all-natural kits.
"As the popularity for kale and other super greens continues to grow, so does the need for tastier ways to enjoy these nutrition greens," Markus Eriksson, senior brand manager for Dole Fresh Vegetables, said in a press release. "Our goal was to create a salad that provides the nutrition consumers want with the delicious Caesar salad taste they love.
And just nine months after launching DOLE All Natural Chopped Salads, Dole Fresh Vegetables is expanding the popular line to leverage strong sales and growing consumer demand for greater flavor variety in the chopped salad segment.
The company will add two new, flavor-focused chopped salad kits to its five other chopped salad SKUs introduced last fall.
The two new SKUs — DOLE All Natural Chopped Sesame Asian Salad Kit and DOLE All Natural Chopped Sunflower Crunch Salad Kit — combine popular consumer flavor profiles with nutrient-dense nutrition provided by the goodness of kale.
National retail availability starts today with an SRP of $3.99, consistent with Dole's other premium kits.
"The success of DOLE Chopped confirms that consumers want chopped salads that combine the health benefits of salad with craveable tastes that they can't easily recreate at home," Eriksson said. "These two newest kits leverage such on-trend flavors as sesame ginger, roasted almond, onion, citrus and sunflower seeds to offer salad users a memorable, taste-first chopped salad experience."
Dole will support the new items with coupons; digital advertising; Web, social media and shopper marketing programs; exclusive Salad Circle content; and kit-specific new recipes and serving suggestions. An exhaustive PR and sampling program will elicit product trial and reviews from food media, culinary and fitness bloggers, registered dieticians, supermarket registered dieticians, chefs and other salad ambassadors.
