Mother’s Day — time to go for the gold
Mother’s Day — time to go for the gold
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11, and it’s traditionally an extremely busy floral holiday. According to an IPSOS - Insight Floral Trends Consumer Tracking Study, a third of adults buy flowers or plants as gifts for Mother’s Day, and it accounts for 25 percent of yearly floral holiday dollars.
There is optimism among some supermarket floral executives hoping that Mother’s Day, along with the other spring holidays, will erase their year-to-date sales deficits.
One Midwestern supermarket floral director whose stores were hit especially hard by a snowstorm on Valentine’s Day told The Produce News, Mother’s Day is the company’s “time to shine.” Customers are excited about spring and with the diversity of floriculture products available, he expects to make up lost ground from weak winter sales.
Bradley Gaines, director of floral for United Supermarkets in Lubbock, TX, agreed. “We had a strong Valentine’s Day and we are expecting a very strong Mother’s Day too. We’re anticipating a 10 percent to 15 percent increase over last year,” Gaines said. “We offer such a wide range of choices at Mother’s Day, there is something for everybody.”
Are you wondering what floral trends and best sellers to prepare for this Mother’s Day?
