Cherry Armor introduced to North America
Jet Harvest Solutions has entered an exclusive distribution agreement with Simplot Growers Solutions and Western Ag Improvement for the distribution of its Cherry Armor product, which is organically certified and uses a patented plant extract to strengthen a cherry’s natural ability to defend itself again rain events.
“After seeing the rain damaged 2013 crop, we are excited to offer cherry growers a product that will help reduce rain-induced splitting on their cherries," Bill Grant, Jet Harvest Solutions president, said in a press release. "Ultimately this should lead to higher packouts for the grower and the warehouse. Cherry Armor has been very successful in Europe and we feel it is another horticultural tool that will increase the quality of cherries in North America.”
“Simplot is always looking for products that safely help the growers produce a better piece of fruit," Dennis Bohanon of Simplot said in the release. "Cherry Armor is a welcome addition to our long list of products and product innovations that provide growers with cost-efficient solutions to specific crop issues.”
Cherry Armor originated in Europe in 2001 and is annually applied to over 45,000 acres globally. It is now available in North America starting with the 2014 crop season.
Composed of food-grade materials, Cherry Armor protects the cherry during its final growth stages, helping to avoid splits, especially during rain events. It also helps increase stem retention, which can lead to better storage life. It is suggested that Cherry Armor be applied twice during the season; it is tank mix compatible with most products and can be used with GA sprays for efficient application timing.
