Scalisi relocates to larger facility, expands organic produce line
West Palm Beach, FL-based foodservice distributor Jack Scalisi Wholesale Fruit & Produce has relocated to a new, 19,000-square-foot, eco-friendly facility about 10 minutes west of its current location, said Jack Scalisi, president of the company.
"We've been out of space for the last few years and we just decided to modernize our whole way of doing business," Scalisi told The Produce News in early March.
The new building, which will be open in mid-April, will be a LEED-certified Silver facility and includes 14,500 square feet of refrigerated storage, according to Scalisi, who added that the extra space and certification will allow the company to focus more on expanding its organic line.

Scalisi noted that kale has been in high-demand from its customers who operate juice bars.
"We've never sold so much kale before, we're really getting a lot of calls for it and we just think that's the way to go - offering organic produce," he said.
The new facility will be partially solar-powered with 180 solar panels on the roof. Water will also be collected from the roof to irrigate the property, and the company will use recycled goods found within 500 miles of the site.
"The main thing is to have more room, do a better job for our customers and modernize our business," Scalisi said.
Jack Scalisi Wholesale Fruit & Produce distributes produce to upscale restaurants, country clubs and hotels throughout the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach metropolitan areas.
