BC Tree Fruits strikes three-year partnership for export of BC-grown cherries
Following a successful export pilot project in 2013, BC Tree Fruits has extended its partnership with Sutherland S.A. Produce for an additional three years to manage the export of the BC Tree Fruits cherry crop through to the 2016 season.
With offices in Hong Kong, Spain and Canada, Sutherland S.A. Produce has over 20 years of experience exporting and marketing cherries to destinations worldwide. This continuing partnership provides BC Tree Fruits export opportunities into international markets, including Europe, China and the Middle East, and forges new relationships for future produce export opportunities.
"We saw an increase in our international sales and export growth in the initial partnership with Clive, Richard and the Sutherland team, so we are very excited to finalize this multi-year partnership," Lance McGinn, director of sales at BC Tree Fruits, said in a press release.
"We are very pleased and excited to continue to work with BC Tree Fruits and support the over 300 growers within the fruit cooperative," Clive Sutherland, president of Sutherland S.A. Produce Inc., added in the press release.
BC Tree Fruits produces over 5 million pounds of cherries on average each season, including Lapin, Skeena, Sweetheart, Staccato and Sentennial varieties.
BC Tree Fruits Industries Ltd. is part of the BC Tree Fruits Cooperative and is owned by over 500 local grower families. BC Tree Fruits Cooperative markets and distributes a variety of BC-grown fruit, including apples, pears, cherries, peaches, apricots, prune plums and blueberries. BC Tree Fruits' head office is based in Kelowna, BC.
